The title is what captured my interest initially. After reading about the author, Brent Hensley, I felt this would be a good choice. I am from South Carolina and knew several of the people mentioned in Brent's book. I somehow felt this would be a book of more than just boxing stories. Man was I ever right! This book captures so many of life's twist and turns that we can relate to. Especially me! This book will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout!Product details

The author is a friend and I have been eagerly waiting to read his first novel. I have & still enjoy his colorful verbal stories and this art of storytelling transcends to the written word. Besides the story - sprinkled with history and humor - the thing I enjoyed most was watching my friend's writing style grow & expand as he delved deeper into the story. This book is a fun - good read, and I look forward to future novels by Brent Hensley.......Dave Blalock

Not knowing much of anything about boxing, I found this book to be full of fascinating characters with enjoyable stories based in the world of boxing, as well as during the trying times of war.

Loved the story behind the story of a small town amateur boxer in the Carolina's. The book goes back and forth in time, which I really liked, from pre-WWII to the main character's passing. Lots of interesting characters are introduced and developed in a way that you get a vivid mental image of them. Included at the end are biographies of some of the Carolina boxers and a link to the Carolina Boxing Hall of Fame. I'm familiar with this particular small town and some of the characters this book is based on so it has a special place in my heart. So glad Mr. Hensley decided to tell this story!
